I have a feeling that the amount of promotional merchandise being given away is being more restricted in the past. I have come to that conclusion on the basis of a number of recent meetings and events that I have recently attended. It seems that items such as branded pens and branded conference folders have either been downgraded or removed from the portfolio of a number of hotels.
One recent business meeting involved an overnight stay, dinner and a day time conference room hire at an expensive hotel just
outside Manchester. Despite the large investment in the meeting the only pens available were the typical clear coloured Bic pen. Now I do not have a problem with a clear Bic pen. It is highly functional. However, having recently stayed at the hotel in question, and been extremely impressed with the restuarant and facilities, I cannot recall its name. The clear branded pen is still in my possession. So if the pen had carried the name of the hote,l I would easily be able to recall the hotel’s name.
A branded A4 sized conference folder would also have come in handy. I have been to several meetings since the one mentioned above. On any occasion a simple and inexpensive card folder would have been re-used and reminded me of the excellent service and experience that i had at the hotel.
